Surroundings

Balatonkenese is one of the most charming villages of the 600 km2 large lake. Balaton is the largest lake of Central- and South-Europe. This 77 km-long lake is often called "The Hungarian Sea". Balatonkenese is set on the east coast of Balaton. This is the first village to reach coming from Budapest (the capital of Hungary). This 1000-year-old, small village is dormant most of the year but in summer it becomes the paradise of tourists. The hosts' main feature is hospitality so all the guests will enjoy themselves. On the other hand this region of Lake Balaton has got the cleanest water. In summer the water temperature can be as high as 28 °C.

There are several opportunities for amusement in Balatonkenese. The entertainment centre of the village is not far from our house (only 0.5 km) where you can find snack-counters, restaurants, boutiques, gaming-room, and disco. In the village there is a riding-hall, harbour (for sailboats and wafters). The capital of Lake Balaton is only 15 km from us. The famous Swimming pool in Balatonfûzfõ is one of the biggest swimming pools in Hungary. It has got sauna, solarium and fitness-room.

The North part of Balaton with its undulating countryside has many spectacles for example: the abbey in Tihany, a water-mill in Örvényes, the ruin of a fortress in Nagyvázsony, wine-district in Badacsony, the castle of Keszthely or the famous cave and spa in Tapolca etc. The bicycle road has been finished around the Lake so you can make a great trip by bicycle round Balaton (250 km). An annual get-together for motorcyclists is held in Balatonkenese and what's more Polgárdi (a nearing village) is the location for a colossal, international motor biker's weekend every July.

As our house is provided with central heating we let our rooms all the year round. Except for summer Kenese is a small, silent, calm village. Balaton often freezes in winter so it is suitable for skating.
